A REVIEW ON A CULTURAL EVENT IN THE UEF SUMMIT AT CHENNAI

A memorable evening on 18th November, 2017 where I enjoyed  a scintillating musical performance at the Grandeur Cultural Events of the UEF (UNITED ECONOMIC FORUM) SUMMIT in Chennai Trade Centre, Chennai.

48 students of Bala Vidhya Mandir, Adyar from class 5-8 presented the wonderful  performance that took the audience to an ecstasy.

These students are formally trained at Global Rhythm a part of their school's  Life Skills programme which inculcates music in children at their tender age to stream themselves in performing arts, music that is accepted globally. The valuable trainers Mr. Srinivas Krishnan, Abhinav and saurav had trained the students for this debut event, outside the school on a well decorated aesthetic stage. Students enjoyed singing a dozen songs in about 90 minutes to a honoured audience which included many prominent Economists.

Nawab of Arcot, Chief Guest of the evening was present with his son. Being a music lover, he himself enjoyed singing a few songs with the children on stage and appreciated their performance with all his wishes.

The children felt over whelmed for participating in this event as they consider this opportunity to be a great exposure at initial level to explore global music in an explicit way.

The following are the songs presented by them in various languages which enthralled the audience.

  1. Zikr a Hindi song from the film  Bose an ARR composition.
  2. Puttham pudhu bhoomi from the film Thiruda thiruda  a tamil composition of ARR
  3. Kolo Kolo from Tare Zamin par a hindi song
  4. Moru bhani a folk song popularized by Osman Mihir in Gujarathi from film Ram leela
  5. A Marathi song Surata piya  a ragamalika with ragas amirkalyani, hindolam
  6. Maula Maula   a sufi composition fim Delhi 6 of ARR
  7. Rolling in the deep a song by Adele in English
  8. Eena meena an yesteryear hit of Kishore kumar
  9. Almadat Maula - Mangal pandey  an album of ARR
  10. Masahali masahali a hit by ARR.
  11. Malhari a hindi song from film DiwaniMastani.
  12. Aye mere frm the film Vakt.

An aalap by their trainer Abhinav with the sarangi player Manonmani was applaudable. Students performing film and album songs  in a group is a first of its kind and the effort by the team for a splendid outcome is commendable. The togetherness feel of the students on stage turns to be cherishable moment for the day.
