History & Overview
The Besant Arundale Senior Secondary School was founded by Rukmini Devi Arundale in 1973 as a service. The school has a Montessori education for ages 2 ½ to 5 ½ years and CBSE system for classes I-XII. It aims at providing education by striking a fine balance between tradition and modern methods of education. The school is the best among the few schools that offer dance, music, visual arts apart from the regular courses in science and humanities. The teaching staffs are from Kalakshetra.
The School (BASS) is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum. The medium of instruction is English. Tamil, Sanskrit and Hindi are also taught.
The school follows simple South Indian clothing, for uniforms. Footwear is removed before entering classrooms and other work spaces. They offer dance, music, art and craft as part of their curriculum in all classes. Students are encouraged to participate in co-curricular, extra-curricular, inter-school sports, and cultural competitions. The school’s vision is on holistic approach of learning in an ambience of art and culture.
The school offers fine arts, dance & music as elective subjects in the XI & XII, supported by the facilities available in Kalakshetra to facilitate direct entry into the Diploma course in the College of Fine Arts, for candidates who wish to take this as a career.

For Lower Kindergarten - above 3 years
For Upper Kindergarten – above 4 years
For 1st STD and so on – above 5 years
Registration is compulsory for LKG. Application process starts in December and selection process is in February.
Selection Process
- Admission is granted on the basis of the performance of the child in an entrance examination
- It occurs in the second or third week of April.
- The examination covers English and Mathematic skills in the level of the class preceding the one to which admission is sought.
- Admission is granted to qualified students based on the availability of seats in the school.
