Urban sketchers are globally known  as a community of artist who practise drawing on location they live in or travel to. This movement was established in 2007 by journalist Gabriel Campanario. It is an all volunteer non profit organisation which works with a mission to create awareness to raise the value of arts and its education by connecting the artist all around the world to promote on location drawing in the places where they live.

Origin And Growth Of Urban Sketchers

In 2007, Gabriel Campanario inaugurated an online forum and invited sketchers from worldwide to join the blog and portray their skills in drawing sites from the windows, cafe, or a park side. Later after a year it was the artists were to submit their drawings and storytelling in the blog.By this the artists  broke the rule of secluded art scenario and shared each others sketches This initiative of creating a blog inspired the artists and they began following  it as a manifesto. They learned that apart from drawing on locations, they can also showcase the story behind their drawings. Members of the group had a privilege of being a part of this team which encouraged and improved their potentials. They also started painting on the walls of the temples and other heritage buildings. Later they found that it would be more interesting if they draw sketches based on heritage on the walls of the house. This led to an initiative by a group of the members who joined and started drawing heritages values on the house of F.D Khan which was an amazing experience. Apart from Heritage drawings the group also does live events which is open to all at free of cost.  The first event of this group on 7th January, 2018 happened to be great success at Chowmallah Palace.
