The Bharatanatyam Dance drama “Ravaneeyam - The untold story of Ravana” was performed by the eminent dancers, the recent Natya Ratna Awardees Sri Gopukiran Sadasivan and Smt Aashin Kiran with live orchestra and Multimedia backed Motion Technology on January 28th at the Music Academy, Chennai.
Ravaneeyam the first of its kind in the classical art form with multimedia pioneered by the kirans was an extravaganza show.
Ravaneeyam depicted the valor Ravana and him as an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, his gifted musical knowledge, his authority in the astrology with administration. The story was expressed gracefully by the dance couple with instances and deeds of his decided destiny. The dance drama belted the audience in the seat for full two hours with the grandeur of the old fertile Lanka, its roaring sea shores, luxurious palaces, rich culture with Mother Nature blessed fertile land which were brought live through motion background. It gave an impact of Ravana and his wife Mandodhari performing live before our eyes in the fort of Lanka. The couple proved their expertise experience with their high energy levels and with a proper mixing of emotions to expressions in their choreography.
The expressions on romance, angry, lust, happiness, sadness of both the characters were brought out by the dancer aptly at the required levels.
The story also projected on Mandodhari being a mother who had to get away from her new born daughter for the sake of her country’s goodness.
The script by Dr. S. Raguraman along with the courageous effort complimented with brilliant choreography and music compositions of Sri.Rijesh Gopalaakrishnan of this traditional epic drama needs a special applause.
Overall a commendable presentation by the whole team and a benchmark for the young dance couple.
