A Dream’s Long Way

Jayanth Kiran

In the immortal words of the rock band, Aerosmith and their song, “Dream on”. The song tells us that no matter what happens, just stay focused and concentrate on your dream. But, before talking about the ways on how people can achieve and not achieve their dreams, let’s first talk about what are dreams? Defined in our minds as something that we want or aim to be when we grow up. Defined in dictionaries as a cherished aspiration, ambition, or idea. Dreams can be anything. But, how do we achieve our dreams? According to some it might be by studying, working hard, having a good and kind behaviour, but achieving your dream is a far more complex and elaborate scheme than it seems. Achieving your dreams is everything from dreaming it to working and enjoying it. So, here are the main and integral 7 steps to achieving your dreams:

  • Dream it: The base foundation for our dreams begins and is placed in our mind and self.
  • Think it: Thinking is the way by which we imagine how to build and achieve our dreams.
  • Convey it: A reason why our dreams never travel long is because we keep it to ourselves.
  • Plan it: Planning is the way by which our dreams are laid as bricks in an irregular manner and it is up to us to plan and lay the bricks in a correct manner.
  • Work it: Working is how we put our ideas and dreams into action and the whole process moves into place.
  • Enjoy it: Enjoy and live your dream to the fullest.

Our body is composed of many dreams, with the potential to achieve it and creativity. We should never let go of it. In fact, our biggest resource is none other than our dreams.

Earlier, we had taken a look at how people can achieve their dreams. Now, let’s take a look at how people are not able to achieve their dreams.

The inability to achieve a dream is a very bad one. No matter how hard or perilous the path is, we should always try to achieve our dreams. Some of the reasons why people cannot achieve their dreams are due to:

  • Bias in Society: In the current society that we are living in, there is a certain bias that people with a proper and formal education can only be allowed to achieve and fulfil their dreams. However, most people do not agree with this because if there is any one thing uniting humans, it is nothing more than the ability to dream. I believe this to be an absurd statement as human beings are connected by dreams and to let go of and break that connection is a very bad idea!
  • Peer Pressure: One particular reason for people to lose hope in their dreams is because of peer pressure. Some of you might think that peer pressure could call for some friendly competition amongst your peers, but it could also prove fatal. Some people lose focus and end up losing their dreams forever.
  • Showcasing of Nepotistic behaviour or Nepotism: This is the most common and relatable example. Some people might be shooed away by a person in order to make room for another person who might have a significant advantage over the other people.
  • Financial Support: Our world and society are controlled and driven by money. Some dreams need monetary support in order for it to become a reality.
  • No Moral Support and Backing: It is a necessity to have moral support from your family or friends while you work to make your dream possible. If you don’t receive mental support from your family/friends, it could lead to depression and they could get the idea that no one believes in them and in their idea.

As you have seen now, to dream and to make it work is a very big accomplishment, but there cannot be no bigger guilt or sin than not having your dreams achieved. So, it is up to each one of us to encourage our friends, classmates or family into helping them into making their dream come true.

On a more important note to each one of you, never stop dreaming. Dream on! Dream on!
