It was a pleasant September evening when we landed in Nairobi, Kenya this year.  The roads of Nairobi and bustling inner city did not provide any clue of what we are going to encounter.  On 30th September, we reached “Masai Marai” which is widely referred as the “Jewel of Kenya’s Parks”. Even though it was cool and pleasant through our ride to “Masai Marai” the roads were dusty and raw, giving us a glimpse of African life.  We found all the African people to be friendly flashing their broad smile which glistered like a rising sun from the roots of a wild forest.

As soon as we entered the forest, we saw the signs of migrating animals, zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Thomson gazelle and Topi deer.  The herd of buffalos for miles and miles looked like a train of small black carriages with no end in sight. The migration season starts in July and ends in first or second week of October when the animals trace their path back to Tanzania.  We saw so many migrating animals, that on the 3rd day our faces carried more boredom than the zebra looks.

On the 4th day in Masai Marai, we were lucky to watch the spectacle of river crossing.  We waited long and nothing was happening.  The zebras, Wildebeests, Topis and Thomson gazelles were on the bank of river waiting for the stars to align.  Since we waited for a long time, we decided to leave but our guide decided to pull the vehicle for few more minutes.  Then all of a sudden they started crossing the river.  Fully panicking to run away from lurking crocodiles, they swam like champions, pushing their way to our bank.  It was truly a spectacle.

Fully satisfied, we returned to our camp, thinking about the lone Topi deer which lost its life during the crossing.
