The Day After The Winter Break
On a gloomy day all the students sleepily got out of the bus to go to their class. Everybody in the school knew that grade 7B was the most fun loving and the smartest batch in school. Even though there were only 6 children, nobody ever dared to beat them because of only one person-ISHAN! He is the smartest and the wittiest kid in the whole secondary school. And most of all he is a great leader. He had many hobbies such as reading books, playing tactical games, and most impressive of all solving mysteries. He loved to solve mysteries, decode and align clues. He usually plays deciphering video games.
This was the first day of school after the winter break. Everybody were tired and sleepy except for batch 7B. They quickly ran to their classroom and were delighted to meet Mrs. Applebaum. Everybody greeted her in a slow and sleepy way “Gooood Moornning Mrssssss. Applebaumm!” just to mock her. They all had a good laugh and sat in their respective seats.
The students greeted her again, but this time in a much-better way. After the Homeroom session, Mrs. Applebaum asked, “Who is ready for show and tell session?” The whole class started screaming in joy and excitement. Mrs. Applebaum reluctantly interupted, she said the word BUT and the whole class activated pin drop silence mode! “But…. But I want all of us to describe ourselves again” she said. All the students shouted “OK!”. Soon after their lunch break. They started one by one. “Hello all I’m Rahul and you must know me as the richest kid in the whole school. And for the show and tell I brought my very own 50,000,000rs. Rolex!” he said with an attitude. Mrs. Applebaum’s Jaw dropped. She said “Are you sure, anybody can steal it. It is very dangerous to bring this costly a watch outside.”
“Well thank you for introducing me Miss Bumm. I’m Daniel, You can call me Dan.” He was interrupted by a huge laughter by the whole class except Miss Applebaum. She was just staring as her face was turning pale in shame. He continued “If you guys noticed I just stole Roma’s Show and her toy bunny hahaha! As you must have inferred I AM the class stealer. But I think people know me as the magician of the class, Atleast I hope so. I am interested in magic, cool tricks and illusion. By now you must have guessed that I brought my magic set with me for the show and tell session.”
“Thank you for introducing me, Daniel. Rahul for your information unlike your father, my father owns an oil factory. So, soon enough I might own a much costlier watch than you!” Roma said. Reluctantly Rahul replied “Sorry to burst the bubble on your face but my dad owns 9 more oil factories than what your dad owns!” Mrs. Applebaum quickly stopped the fight before things could get any worse. She said “I know your fathers are business rivals. Rahul and Roma please do not start a fight here I will become responsible for this unwanted discussion. Roma, please continue with your show and tell item.” Roma continued, “Well for my show and tell, I brought a bunny. I have had this bunny since I was 6 years old. This bunny has been with me for half of my life so this is the most precious thing I have. For me it is not money that can define who is rich rather being kind and generous to the maximum is one's best wealth.” Everybody started hooting. Rahul’s face started turning pale.
Mrs. Applebaum said “After Soma's toy, we will be having a small break. Soma dear it’s your turn.” Soma said “Hi everyone” nervously. She continued “What I brought for the show and tell is a very old phone that my mother had. My mother said this was the first cordless phone that was invented.” Everybody were amazed and interested. They went to Soma to see her antique toy. She muttered softly, “It doesn’t work now.” Slowly the class was getting out of control. Mrs Applebaum started counting back words “3…...2……1……” by the time she said zero everybody went back to their respective places. She said “Now…. Let’s have a small break.” All the students were happy. All the students went to the washroom, except for Katrina. She told Mrs. Applebaum that she was not feeling well. Suddenly there was a loud THUD! Mrs Applebaum ran out to see what happened. Apparently, a high school kid Bumped onto Daniel, and Daniels leg was bleeding. Slowly he started to cry. Mrs. Applebaum asked Ishan to guide him to the school clinic. While she dealt with the high school kid!
Ishan took Daniel to the school clinic and made sure he was alright. The nurse advised that Daniel should stay in the clinic to rest for a while or else he will get a fever. Ishan said bye to Daniel and headed back to class. When he reached class, Rahul was crying. Apparently his watch went missing. Ishan gathered everyone to a circle and asked everyone to explain what happened. Mrs Applebaum said “After I dealt with the high school kid, I went inside and everybody were taking their seats. But Rahul was running around the class really fast. When I asked him what was happening, he said he couldn’t find his watch.” Roma reluctantly said “I was the first one to come in. When I came in all the bags fell down the cubby, and I found my Bunny there.” Soma added on “I saw Roma with Rahul near the cubby. I think Roma is the culprit. Even during the show and tell, she was jealous of Rahul” Roma shouted “I didn’t steal Rahul's watch!”. Ishan said “Good Try Soma! but that couldn’t be it”.
That is the time Daniel came to the class as well. He said “I followed Ishan when he was returning to class. The nurse had just checked me before he left. So the nurse gave me a thumbs up and I followed him! The truth is I have been eavesdropping this situation the whole time. And I think it is Roma too.” Roma said “well I think it is Daniel because he is the class thief. He must have stolen it and wantedly ran and hit the high school boy so that he could not get accused.”
Mrs Applebaum added “While I was talking to the high school boy, he said that he was talking to his friends and he didn’t notice Daniel, and they dashed. That is when I entered the classroom and saw Rahul running here and there. That is also when I asked him why he was running. After he replied I caught hold of the high school boy and asked him if he saw something fall out of Daniels pocket. He replied no.”
Ishan said “That proves that Daniel is innocent. We can also say that Roma is innocent because whenever Rahul boasts in front of her, she says that her dad could get it for her, she never loses her hope in her dad. And after sometime she actually gets what Rahul has. So it can’t be her. She is loyal to her father. After all, she just said that, for her, it is not money that can define who is rich it is being kind and generous to the maximum. So technically she should not steal after saying such a powerful statement or else she is shameless. Wait UP! Soma said that Rahul and Roma were together near the cubby, if Roma’s toy fell down Rahul’s watch must have fallen down too.” Ishan added on breathlessly “Anyways for those of you who think I stole it I’m innocent.” Ishan emptied his lunch bag, School bag, and pockets. And after that everybody believed him that he was innocent. Ishan continued. “Well, we are a class of 6. Roma, Daniel, Rahul, Myself are innocent. Meaning It is either Katrina, the new kid or Soma.”
Mrs. Applebaum said as she interrupted Ishan “It’s fine Rahul by the end of the day we will surely find it. Now it is time for Katrina, come on dear don’t be shy!” Ishan Shouted” Its Katrina!” Katrina started crying and she said “I’m sorry Rahul I just wanted to make friends. I am very shy I thought I could steal it, and show it as my object for show and tell and maybe then all of us could become best friends.” Mrs. Applebaum said “We are already friends as soon as you entered the class, we became best friends.” Daniel said “WOW KATRINA! Your next level. Your better than me! Keep it up!” whole class except Daniel shouted “DANIEL!!”. Mrs Applebaum asked curiously “how did you do it. The stealing!” Katrina said innocently. “Well, I told Daniel to dash into somebody to cause a distraction”. “OHHHH that’s why you instructed me to dash into him.” Daniel impatiently interrupted. “Yeah…” Katrina continued. She said “I was fine with instructing you to do something like that because he was my brother. So, getting back to the plan once I caused the distraction. I quickly hurried to grab the watch. I pushed all the bags down so that all of you can blame Roma. I thought It would be practical for all of you to blame Roma. I’m sorry Roma. I didn’t consider all the points you said about Roma, Ishan. Then I stole it. I could only go forth with my plan if I told Mrs. Applebaum I was sick. That is when she would allow me to stay in the class. And that is only when I will get a suitable time to go forth with my master fail plan.” The whole class laughed. Mrs. Applebaum concluded the conversation by saying “OK Katrina. Just for your information we all are friends even though we make fun of each other.” “Rahul is not my friend” Roma shouted with a very funny face. The whole class fell into laughter. “You are one of us now. Oh, I just realized it is time. You guys should be heading to the bus stand, or else you might miss your bus!” Mrs. Applebaum said hastily. And slowly, the day also came to an END!
